Senior Operations Manager (large scale, multi-channel distribution site)

MVP’s multi-channel retail client is on a defined journey to transform its fulfilment and distribution operations.  As this transformation continues, they are now looking to appoint a driven Senior Operations Manager to lead all operations at its large scale distribution centre in the East Midlands. 


In this role, you’ll work closely with the site’s General Manager, setting and delivering the vision and culture required to continue delivering an exceptional experience for its customers.  You’ll maximise performance and results across all shifts and departments through your leadership, with responsibility for people, safety, quality, cost and delivery.


This is a key appointment, with a clearly defined progression route for the successful candidate.


Key accountabilities and measures:


  • Leadership – play a pivotal role supporting the General Manager in setting the site’s vision and culture.  Lead the colleague engagement workstream and drive leadership development at all levels.
  • People – lead the engagement and inclusion agenda and embed a culture of outstanding communication and achievement.  Coach and develop teams across shifts and departments. Deliver performance and behavioural reviews and feedback to the management team; nurture development and deliver robust career and succession plans.
  • Safety – lead an excellent culture of Health & Safety across all operations at the site in conjunction with the Site Health & Safety team
  • Cost – drive cost reductions whilst maintaining service requirements through effective coaching and management of your teams.  Identify cost barriers to process improvements; take a balanced view of benefits and deliver against challenging timescales
  • Quality – deliver operational improvements in line with business planning and investment.  Develop a mentality that strives to exceed in all areas.  Ensure direct reports and your wider teams take accountability for delivery improvements. 


Experience and Skills Required:


You will be an experienced leader of large 24/7 teams in a fast-moving automated environment (ideally Ecommerce) with a focus on driving performance and culture.You’ll also have:


  • Experience of creating and successfully executing a strategic plan
  • Great stakeholder management abilities; able to contribute to business-wide strategies and plans
  • Strong commercial focus – able to evaluate the impact of decision making on other areas of the business
  • Able to demonstrate data led leadership and strong analytical abilities
  • Brilliant communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly across all levels of the business
  • The ability to inspire others; you’ll demand the highest standards of performance from both yourself and your teams
  • Presence and confidence in order to make an immediate positive impression on others
  • Ideally – experience of working with multiple MHE solution providers
  • Project management experience
