Health and Safety Manager – Logistics

Can be based either in Kent or Derbyshire

Up to c£45,000 + car allowance


MVP’s client is a national logistics business, with multiple operations within the UK.  They are currently seeking to appoint a Health and Safety Manager to take overall responsibility for managing all aspects of Health & Safety across the business on a national basis.  You’ll deliver the company’s strategy on all aspects of Health & Safety and will offer day to day direction, support, advice and action plans.  This is a national role and will involve travel around the UK depot network.


Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Working on a collaborative basis with peers across the business, sharing best practice
  • Carry out an audit programme across all company sites – report on findings and manage any issues
  • Developing internal controls and procedures to ensure legal compliance and best practice
  • Ensure appropriate risk assessments, safe systems of work, accident reporting and investigation processes are in place
  • Design and deliver H&S training programmes
  • Identify and implement key H&S improvement projects
  • Conduct and record all risk assessments
  • Co-ordinate and manage colleague safety reps, first aid and emergency response teams


You’ll need the following skills and experience:

  • A qualification in occupational H&S – eg NEBOSH National Diploma / NCRQ)
  • Previous experience in a H&S role within a logistics / distribution business
  • A good level of knowledge of transport and warehousing operations
  • Great leadership abilities – able to drive the H&S agenda through people
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and associated H&S technical standards
  • Flexibility with working hours and the ability to travel to other sites across the UK as required
  • Good IT and reporting skills


This role requires an individual with strong leadership and influencing skills who is confident in making decisions.  Someone who has effective communication skills and is able to positively communicate change will do very well.  You will ideally hold a NEBOSH Health & Safety Diploma or equivalent and be able to demonstrate management experience in H&S processes and procedures in accordance with recognised standards. Experience working across multiple sites would be beneficial.
