19 Oct 2006 Interim Management Case Studies Not so long ago the most common reason employers used contract staff was as cover for permanent employees who were unable to perform their job function for a significant period of time. However, that is no longer the case and professional contractors are frequently used as business strategists bringing specialist knowledge and experience, when it is needed for as long as it is needed.
Below are just a few examples of Interim contracts resourced through MVP:
A multi-national manufacturing company approached us seeking to appoint a Purchasing Manager for an initial 6 month period. This appointment was at the heart of a transformation project across the entire Supply Chain, designed to enable the business to become more competitive whilst increasing the bottom line profit figure.
Using a combination of networking, database interrogation and website advertising we were quickly able to provide a selection of candidates with the knowledge, experience and personal stature necessary to take on the challenge ahead. A contractor was appointed within 3 weeks and has so impressed our client that his contract has since been extended on two occasions.

Our client, a privatised utility company, approached us seeking to appoint a Procurement Manager who would bring a more commercial focus to the procurement function, delivering a radical Change Management and Business Process Re-engineering programme. The appointment was to be made on the basis of a 6 month contract with clearly defined KPI’s to be achieved.
Through our extensive network of professional contractors MVP were able to provide our client with a choice of six suitably qualified and experienced candidates within a matter of days. Following a rigorous interview and selection process a contractor was appointed within 3 weeks of the original request being placed with us.
Once in situ our contractor immediately exceeded expectations and was actually appointed on a permanent basis a few months later.

A Midlands based manufacturer was experiencing pressure within the supply chain, primarily due to a rapid growth in its order book. As a result they needed to appoint a Junior Buyer / Planner initially on a 12 month contract with a view to the role becoming permanent at a later date.
Despite the difficulties of a comparatively unattractive salary and the role becoming available over a busy holiday period MVP were able to provide CV’s on 4 relevant candidates within 8 working days, one of whom was appointed and continues in the role to this day.

An international manufacturer of bespoke systems with a worldwide reputation for excellence sought to appoint 2 Commodity Managers for a period of 6 months. The objective of the roles was to devise and implement a purchasing strategy that would encompass the application of Lean Manufacturing principles, take advantage of Low Cost country sourcing, reduce inventory and improve product availability. Candidates needed to be strategists with proven change management experience yet still willing to be “hands on” when negotiating with suppliers.
Using a combination of database search, networking and on line advertising candidates who offered the required combination of qualifications, experience and personal stature were quickly identified. Six candidates were interviewed and both positions were filled, and the contractors are now in situ.
